UWI Mona Leadership Seminar

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus hosts an annual Development Seminar for tertiary level students who are aspiring Caribbean Leaders. This is usually scheduled for one week during the months June to July of each year. The Seminar was first launched in 2004 as an initiative of the CARICOM Secretariat for the preparation of youth participation within the Caribbean Single Market (CSM). This initiative helps to encourage Caribbean youths to create meaningful networking among participants who are currently enrolled in Caribbean tertiary institutions.

Each year, two (2) ROYTEC students are selected to attend this seminar. All expenses inclusive of registration, accommodation and airfare, are covered by ROYTEC. The theme for the 2008 seminar was “The New Caribbean Leader: Leadership Practice, Issues and Ideas in a Global Age”.

Michael Manley Essay Competition

Each year, The Michael Manley Foundation invites undergraduate students throughout the Caribbean to participate in this Essay Competition. The competition has been held annually since 2003. In 2009, participants were asked to discuss the following statement made by Michael Manley in his first book, The Politics of Change: “Self-reliance, equality and democracy are the objectives towards which we must strive. Without these we cannot build a just society.”

Monroe College

Students pursuing the Associate of Science Degree in Information Technology are encouraged to apply to Monroe College, New York, to complete the BBA degree in Information Systems Management. Each year, Monroe College conducts information and interview sessions at ROYTEC, with a view of selecting students for scholarship awards.
